What’s a Take Off?
“Take Offs” are a Tire Industry term for new tires that have been “taken off” of a new vehicle. They typically have less than 25km on them and are equivalent to the “new” tires you would get when you buy a new vehicle.
In fact, this is often exactly what a “take off” is; a customer has bought a new vehicle and, for a variety of reasons, does not want the OEM tire (i.e., the tire that was installed on the vehicle by the vehicle manufacturer).
An example scenario of this is a customer buys a new vehicle at the dealership, but wants a custom wheel (tire & rim) package installed. The original tires are taken off, returned to stock and are classified as a “take off”. There is nothing wrong with the tire and it’s not correct to consider it used - it is “new” in every meaningful way; it has full tread life and is eligible for the full manufacturer warranty. However - because it’s a take off, the tire’s market value has dropped - so it is sold at a discount.
In short, a take off represents a great value to the customer; they get a new tire at a great price.
